MFA APPLICATION DEADLINE:

Admissions Requirements
Applicants for admission to the degree program must
meet the general requirements for admission to graduate
study, hold a B.A. or B.F.A. and have completed one
year of twentieth-century art history (students who
have not completed this will be required to do so as
part of their graduate studies), and submit by January
15 a portfolio of their creative work.
The faculty review committee wants to review a portfolio
of one or more developed bodies of
recent work. Recipients of a BA degree from UCI will
not be considered for admission to the
MFA program until a minimum of one year after receipt
of degree. TOEFL is required for foreign applicants.

How to Apply
Complete an online application to UCI Graduate Studies
available at www.rgs.uci.edu.
Submit a portfolio package including documentation or
work samples that best represents your recent work.
The documentation or work samples may take the form
of slides (no more than 20), videotapes (VHS - no more
than 5 minutes cued up), or CD-ROM.
All materials sent should include your name, address
and a title, and duration of the work if
time-based.
Slides should be marked clearly with artist's name,
title of work and an arrow indicating the top of image.
Send slides in a KODAK 80 carousel with box. The sides
of the carousel tray and the box top should be labeled
with your name, address and number of slides submitted
(maximum is 20). Slides will be presented as they are
received. Preview your slides so that they are inserted
properly for viewing when projected.
A slide description sheet is required indicating name,
title, medium, dimensions of work
and concise description of each work.
A short incisive statement about the work and a statement
of purpose (what you would like to achieve in the MFA
program) is also required.
For the return of portfolio materials, applicants must
include a stamped, self-addressed padded envelope that
is large enough to contain the materials with sufficient
postage for return mailing. Packages submitted without
sufficient postage will not be returned.

Applicants are encouraged to arrange a campus visit
between October 1 and February 1 to view the facilities,
meet with faculty and attend a graduate level class.
