MFA APPLICATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 15 for the following Fall Quarter

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for admission to the degree program must meet the general requirements for admission to graduate study, hold a B.A. or B.F.A. and have completed one year of twentieth-century art history (students who have not completed this will be required to do so as part of their graduate studies), and submit by January 15 a portfolio of their creative work.

The faculty review committee wants to review a portfolio of one or more developed bodies of
recent work. Recipients of a BA degree from UCI will not be considered for admission to the
MFA program until a minimum of one year after receipt of degree. TOEFL is required for foreign applicants. GRE scores are not required. Nondiscrimination statement: The University of
California, Irvine, provides equal opportunity in its admissions, services, and employment, and implements student and employment affirmative action programs.

HOW TO APPLY

Submit a portfolio package including documentation or work samples that best represents your recent work. The documentation or work samples may take the form of CD-ROM or slides (no more than 20 images), or DVD (a selected work sample, 5 minutes will be viewed).

All materials sent should include your name, address and a title, and duration of the work if
time-based.

Slides should be marked clearly with artist's name, title of work and an arrow indicating the top of image. Send slides in a KODAK 80 carousel with box. The sides of the carousel tray and the box top should be labeled with your name, address and number of slides submitted (maximum is 20). Slides will be presented as they are received. Preview your slides so that they are inserted properly for viewing when projected.

A slide description sheet is required indicating name, title, medium, dimensions of work
and concise description of each work.

A short incisive statement about the work and a statement of purpose (what you would like to achieve in the MFA program) is also required.

For the return of portfolio materials, applicants must include a stamped, self-addressed padded envelope that is large enough to contain the materials with sufficient postage for return mailing. Packages submitted without sufficient postage will not be returned.

Portfolio package should be mailed to:

University of California, Irvine
Studio Art Department
3229 Art Culture and Technology
Irvine, CA 92697-2775

DEADLINE for application and portfolio package: January 15.

Applicants are encouraged to arrange a campus visit between October 1 and February 1 to view the facilities, meet with faculty and attend a graduate level class. Contact the departmental office for further information at (949) 824-6648.
