ANDREA BOWERS
Lecturer (MFA, 1992, California Institute of Arts),
has
taught in the undergraduate program for 8 years. Her
classes include
basic, intermediate and advanced courses in drawing
and painting, 2-D
and 3-D design, Issues in Painting, and Senior Exhibitions.
She has also taught classes in film and
video at Art
Center College of Design and was a visiting professor
at California
Institute of Arts. Her artwork includes photorealist
drawing, video
and sound installations and sculpture. In 2002 she had
solo
exhibitions at Sara Meltzer Gallery in NY, Goldman Tevis
in Los
Angeles and Chouakri Brahms in Berlin. Last year she
participated in
the following group exhibitions: Videodrome II, New
Museum of
Contemporary Art, New York, NY; Remix: Contemporary
Art & Pop at the
Tate Liverpool; New Heimat at the Frankfurt Kunstverein
in Frankfurt,
Germany; L A On My Mind at the Museum of Contemporary
Art, Los Angeles
and Retake at the Neuer Aachener Kunstverein in Aachen,
Germany. A
survey catalog accompanying her recent New York exhibition
was
published with essays by Katy Siegel and Chris Kraus.
A recent review
of her work was published in Artforum, January 2003.
Her grants and
awards include: 2003 City of Los Angeles (COLA) Fellowship
Recipient
for Visual Art; 1998 Nominee, Fondazione Sandretto Re
Rebaudengo per
l’Arte Prize; and 1995-1996, WESTAF/NEA Regional
Fellowship for Visual
Arts in sculpture. In 2003 her work will be exhibited
at Barnsdall Art
Park, Los Angeles, EXTENDED PLAY: art remixing music,
Brewster Art
Gallery, Contemporary Art Museum, New Plymouth, New
Zealand;
Mengenburo / Brasilia 2003, ARTE 21, Escritorio de Arte
e Projectos
Cultrais, Brasil; and Sammlung Goertz Collection, ZKM/Center
for Art
